World travel and tourism is generating in excess of US$7 trillion a year, and is expected to rise to over US$13 trillion over the coming decade according to the World Travel & Tourism Council’s (WTTC) Tourism Satellite Account (TSA) research, sponsored by Accenture and prepared by Oxford Economics. The magnaminous size of the industry has resulted in a proliferation of booking engines and business opportunities to sell membership packages worth substantial discounts at hotel properties throughout the world.

While it is exciting for travelers to have all these options, it can also be a challenge to search through all available information to find out which ones are legitimate and actually work! That is why I am writing this article. To share with you an opportunity that has had a profound impact on my life and truly believe it will do the same for you. GLOBAL RESORTS NETWORK is a marketing arm of a 20-year old company that is a market leader in the resort travel business. They offer a platinum luxury resort membership that provide you with unrestricted access to over 5,000 of the most luxurious hotel and resort destinations in the world. Large number of properties available through this membership can not be booked using other on-line travel sites, like Orbitz or Tracelocity, because access to them is limited to timeshare owners only.

By becoming a member of Global Resorts Network you will never have to pay more then $799 for one week’s stay at a four- to five-star resort and in many cases will pay as little as $299. It is not a misprint! $299 for a full week of resort living! Not just a tiny room in the hotel, but full-scale resort unit, with kitchen, bedrooms, living room and all the amenities of a 4-5 star resort! With no blackout dates or restricted weeks, you are in complete control. Whether you want to go to Hawaii or Cabo in peak season, Colorado in ski season, Arizona in golf season, or take a Disney Cruise in any season, our membership offers a service like no other.

As a member, you have access anytime to top resort destinations; including highly sought after timeshare resort properties, world famous Sheraton Resort properties, Marriott Resort Properties, and many other luxury resort destinations (enjoy discounts on all the major cruise lines as well).

One of the best member benefits is that there are no annual dues or exchange fees, no maintenance fees, no restricted weeks, and no blackout dates- giving you year-round access to the world’s top resorts in peak season, completely eliminating any need for a timeshare purchase! The price of the Platinum Membership is only $2,995! Compare it to a timeshare cost ranging from $7,000 to $40,000 and it you will realize the what a great product it is. The matter of fact, the membership will pay for itself after only two or three vacations!

Since the membership is fully transferable, it will provide you, your children, and your children’s children, a lifetime of vacation happiness and memories.

What makes Global Resorts Network even more appealing is that you can profit from this business opportunity by promoting it within your network of relationships. We offer one of the most aggressive compensation structures in the business and more importantly our FREE EBOOK will provide a step-by-step guide on how you can make enough money from this opportunity that you will never have to work a real job again!

In closing, Global Resorts Network can be a life-changing experience for anyone that chooses to get involved. You will get to visit places you have always dreamed of, meet amazing people, and most importantly achieve your goal of financial freedom. We have changed many lives for the better and would love to do the same for you!

The traditional gifts for a tenth anniversary are tin or aluminum. Not particularly exciting gifts. Expedia.com is forgoing the tin or aluminum for their tenth anniversary and giving what they call “incredible deals” on their top ten destinations. Get it – 10 year anniversary, top 10 destinations?

In addition to the incredible deals on the top ten, each week for ten weeks, the travel website will be featuring a limited-time offer on one special vacation spot. This week happens to be Mexico. From now until August 28th, you can save $100 instantly on a flight to Mexico and a hotel stay of six nights or more. After August 28th, presumably Expedia will choose another of their top ten destinations to discount even further.

So I thought I’d do a little comparison shopping to see how Expedia’s 10th anniversary incredible deal to Mexico stood up against one of its competitors – Travelocity. I picked a random Mexican destination – Cozumel; a random hotel in Cozumel – The Reef Club; and a random city to fly to and from – Philadelphia. I shopped for flight and hotel from September 4 – September 11 and choose the same exact flights.

The winner? Expedia did come in lower. At $2.068.73 (after $100 instant savings) their anniversary price was $120.27 less than Travelocity’s price. Both prices included discounts for booking air and hotel together and both included all taxes and fees.

So it seems Expedia’s anniversary deals are worth looking into. Here are the destinations that Expedia is offering discounts to during their anniversary.

Mexico – Choose from Acapulco, Cancun, Costa Rica, Cozumel, Los Cabos, Mazatlan, Mexico City, Puerto Vallarta, and Riviera Maya. And don’t forget – if you book your Mexican trip by August 28th and use coupon code MEX100 when you check out you can save an extra $100.

Las Vegas – Here are just a few of the hotels Expedia is offering their deal at – Sahara, Excalibur, Bally’s, Treasure Island, MGM Grand, Mirage and Mandalay.

Orlando – You can take the family to Walt Disney World, Epcot, Sea World, Universal, and Disney’s Blizzard Beach when you stay at local hotels such as Ramada, Lake Buena Vista, Royal Plaza, Hyatt Grand Cypress and The Florida Hotel. Stay three nights, get one free.

Los Angeles – There are 18 hotels to choose from with Expedia’s Los Angeles packages including Comfort Inn, Wyndham, Marriot Marina Del Ray, and The Tower Beverly Hills.

Caribbean – Choose from Antigua, Aruba, Bahamas, Barbados, Cayman, Domincan Republic, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, and USVI.

Hawaii – Choose from the islands Oahu, Maui, Kauai, and Big Island.

New York City – Take in a Broadway show while you stay in hotels such as The Pickwick Arms, Woogo Central Park, Salisbury or The Mansfield.

San Francisco – While in the city by the bay you can stay at one of fourteen hotels including The Bay Bridge Inn, Monarch Hotel, Miyako, Bay Landing, or Sir Francis Drake.

Washington D.C. – Fifteen hotels are available in the nation’s capital including Geroge Washington Inn, Washington Court, Lansdowne, and the infamous Watergate Hotel.

Europe – Some of Europe’s most popular destinations are included in Expedia’s tenth anniversary deal including London, Rome, Paris, Amsterdam, Munich, Barcelona, and Dublin.

In addition to their anniversary deals, Expedia is also giving away a $50,000 vacation and other weekly and daily prizes for those who choose to enter their contest

Ask Canadians where they are heading for a winter break and you are most likely to hear Mexico, Cuba, Dominican Republic, and Caribbean cruises. These tourist spots are quite hot among Canadians, because of their sun-soaked beaches and mildly warm climate. Industry experts agree that tourism demands for all these locations are hitting their all-time high because of the lavish accommodation, sight-seeing arrangements, and the variety of travel packages, which these destinations offer.

Mexican Coastal Resorts

In Mexico, Mayan Riviera, Cozumel on the Yucatan Peninsula, Cancun, and Los Cabos on Baja Peninsula are the most popular tourist destinations. Particularly, the Yucatan has witnessed a spectacular rise in resort and hotel development because of its amazing beaches and Mayan archaeological sites such as Chichen Itza and Tulum. The Mayan Riviera is also popular as the top destination for Canadian travelers. Climbing up the popularity charts are also Puerto Vallarta and a revitalized Acapulco on the Pacific coast. In Puerto Vallarta, the destination that is gaining rapid popularity is Nuevo Vallarta, which is located at north of the old town.

Growing Golf in Cuba

Cuba was devoid of any golf culture until the famous Varadero Golf was built. After it was set up, the island has just not looked back in terms of the sport’s popularity. Today, Cuba is the most sought after golf destination and is a vital attraction for the local as well as international sports lovers. Currently, the much famous Varadero Golf Club does over 32,000 rounds annually. It intends to add nine more holes to its existing facility, according to the management. A European has been given the responsibility to design the new golf site that is likely to have five holes on ocean, instead of the existing two.

Dominican Republic’s all-inclusive Packages

The growing popularity of The Dominican Republic as a tourist spot is reflected in a spectacular rise in its hotel rooms to nearly 40,000. The destination is among the favorite tourist spot for the Canadians, because of its all-inclusive vacations. In such packages, one up-front payment covers facilities including airfare, accommodation, unlimited alcohol, food, and resort activities like tennis and windsurfing. So much so that the popularity of the Dominion Republic’s all-inclusive packages have reached Caribbean and Mexican destinations. Canadian tourists heading to the Dominion Republic pay as low as $999 per person for an all-inclusive trip to a hotel/resort situated at just 10 minutes away from Puerto Plata.

Caribbean Cruises

Even the biggest tropical storms move at snail’s pace when compared with the cruise ships, which is the biggest reason for the growing popularity of the Caribbean cruises. The nice weather of the Caribbean serves like an icing on the hot cake. Even a hurricane in the cruise’s path seems like a vacuum cleaner that sucks the moisture out of the air, leaving behind bright sunny days for the tourists. Moreover, with the political uncertainties across the globe, the Canadians prefer holiday trips close to home, which is another reason contributing towards the increasing popularity of Caribbean cruises.

Where can we expect to get the most for our money?

Ann Lile: All-inclusive resorts will give you the most for your money since most packages will include all meals, drinks, and non-motorized activities available at the resort.

The Colonial Cities of Mexico (including Aguascalientes, Guanajuato, Guadalajara, San Miguel de Allende, Zacatecas and Merida) are also good value, giving the traveler a cultural/historical experience similar to Europe, only at a much better price.

When is the best time of the year to go to Mexico?

Ann: The peak season for traveling to Mexico is December through April, while the low season is from May through November.

The official hurricane season is June to October, which affects primarily the Yucatan Peninsula and Southern Coast. If you’re going to be honeymooning during hurricane season, and can’t take the chance of being visited by a hurricane on your vacation, you might be wise to avoid these regions of the country to be absolutely safe.

Rainy season is May through mid-October. The rainy season is of little consequence in the Northern region of the country while the Southern region typically receives tropical showers in the late afternoon on a daily basis.

Do you have any “hidden gems” of Mexico?

Ann: My personal favorites are the colonial cities of Mexico. These cities offer a tremendous amount of history, culture, architecture, a great climate, and a taste of the real Mexico. Built back in the 1500’s near the silver mines, these cities offer many small, intimate properties for vacationers of all kinds.

Highly recommended places to stay are the Quinta Real properties in Huatulco or Aguascalientes, which will give the traveler an intimate experience that combines the true flavor of Old Mexico with a historical feel.

Compared to Tahiti or Hawaii, what makes Mexico a special destination?

Ann: In addition to having beautiful beaches and various water activities to enjoy like Hawaii and Tahiti, Mexico affords the traveler the opportunity to experience wonderful archaeological sites such as Teotihuacán, Monte Alban, and Palenque. In addition, travelers can explore the Mayan ruins of Chichen Itza, Uxmal, and Tulum.

Mexico is also home to many all-inclusive resorts, which provide wonderful value for travelers.

Where do celebrities like to stay?

Ann: As expected, celebrities flock to resorts that offer the ultimate in luxury, comfort, and privacy.

Here is a short list of my personal favorites:

Cancun – Fiesta Americana Grand

Ixtapa – Villa del Sol

Riviera Maya – Paraiso de la Bonita and Maroma

Los Cabos – One and Only Palmilla, Marquis Los Cabos, Hotel Twin Dolphin

Costa Alegre – El Careyes, El Tamarindo, Hotelito Desconocido

Puerto Vallarta – Four Seasons Punta Mita, Grand Velas, or Kevin Costner’s house!

Ann joined TheBigDay Travel in April 2005 after completing an internship program through Mt. Hood Community College. After obtaining an Economics degree from the University of Washington and many years in the banking industry, Ann looks forward to pursuing her new travel career with enthusiasm and a passion to work with two of her favorite things – travel and people!

Hear what experts say about what a great time this is to benefit from the many travel bargains out there. Like taking advantage of a beaten real estate market, if you have discretionary cash to spend on an exotic vacation, travel opportunities are everywhere. Vendors are hurting and want your business. If you have wanted to take that dream vacation now is the best time.

The travel industry has been hurting for a while and prices are being slashed to attract travelers. Places like Hawaii, Mexico and the Caribbean are offering heavily discounted travel packages and many new resorts have come on line. New resorts have sprung up in Jamaica, Dominican Republic, Cancun and the Mayan Riviera. Occupancy rates have been low with a large supply of hotel rooms.

If these resorts can cover their cost of having a guest stay in an otherwise empty room, the resort will profit from the money you spend at the bar, the restaurants, the spa and other activities. Last-minute travel deals are a win-win situation. The resort fills an empty room and makes money, and you the traveler get a great deal.

Peter B. Diaz, President and CEO of VoyageMonkey.com Online Travel says “Not only are we seeing deep discounted last-minute travel deals but longer term reservations booked well in advanced are seeing magnificent savings. The cruise industry is offering some of the best value vacation bargains we have seen in a long time. In recent years you have had many mega-cruise ships built. The law of supply and demand coupled with the recent economy has forced the cruise lines to compete heavily on price. It’s very easy in today’s market to cruise for under $100 per day per person.”

Look at places like Maui Hawaii that rely heavily on tourism, occupancy rates have been low and their local economy has felt the pinch. Not only are the Maui resorts offering great deals, but the local businesses are competing for your dollars with benefits such as two for one drinks, early bird dinner specials and dining coupons. Starwood Resorts has regular specials on some of their Kaanapali Maui properties which include The Westin Maui Resort & Spa, The Sheraton Resort at Black Rock and the Westin Kaanapali Ocean Resort Villas. These are all four star resorts of the beach offering luxury accommodations and plenty of amenities.

Cabo San Lucas Mexico is also seeing some deep discounted travel specials. Suffering from bad press about Mexico drug gang crimes and the swine flu, Cabo is desperately trying to fill vacancies. Remember that Cabo is very isolated from mainland Mexico and what goes on there. Peak season luxury beach resort hotel rooms are easily available from between $100 to $200 per night. There are regular daily flights to Cabo from many major US cities. There have also been some heavily discounted travel deals to Cancun Mexico & the Mayan Riviera as well as many other Mexican resort destinations. Bad media press about Mexico is often good news for the fearless traveler.

You may not see a better time to take a luxury vacation and go someplace special. If you can afford it, make the commitment and take time off to travel like a king. You may not see an opportunity like this in a long time. It’s time to search your favorite travel website or call your travel agent.

World Ventures Dreamtrips sells for $199.95 up front and $24.99 a month. This product is described as taking the bulk buying concept of Costco and applying it to travel; in short it’s a monthly membership that gives the member access to discounted vacations. At the time of writing there were 68 vacations listed on the schedule of available vacations.

So is it worth it? It would be an impossible task to research all of the 68 vacations currently being offered to determine value but our research showed that they do in fact provide vacation pricing that cannot be matched anywhere else online. One of the price comparisons I researched as a test was for a Jamaica vacation at the Grand Lido Braco. For two adults this vacation cost $890 via the World Ventures Dreamtrips product and Travelocity came in at $1050. Another example I researched was a Cabo San Lucas trip to the Riu PaIace. For two adults this vacation cost $758 via Dreamtrips product and Travelocity came in at $950.28. There were some more extravagant trips that could not be easily compared because they would not show pricing unless you were a member and others were hard to compare because the Dreamtrips included extras that could not be purchased via the normal online booking engine.

Looking at the numbers it seems most consumers would recover their World Ventures Dreamtrips membership investment with the money they save by taking their first “Dreamtrip”. Please be aware that this was by no means an exhaustive investigation as we only priced 2 of the 68 Dreamtrips available at time of writing, but based on this analysis, it seems that families taking at least one decent vacation a year would see the value out of their membership.

WorldVentures LTC (Leisure Travel Consultant) package sells for $199.95 up front and $24.99 a month. The best description for this product would be an online travel “business in a box”. This includes an online retail travel website, online travel tutorials and exam, along with opportunities for higher level travel industry training.

Evaluating the legitimacy of the World Ventures LTC product is a little tougher as it is not as much of a retail product for end consumers but rather the training, tools and systems to market to end consumers. To this end it looks as if they have the gamut covered pretty well. I was particularly impressed by the Rovia search engine that powers the retail travel websites of LTC’s. In doing an airfare search I was surprised to see that they also check Southwest airlines. Because I actually needed to book the travel I was researching I ended up booking the airfare and had no issues with the fulfillment. There is also a “Match or Beat” price guarantee for online bookings against Expedia, Orbitz, Priceline and Travelocity. After using the booking engine and seeing how it searches all the other booking engines I can start to see how the marketing claims of not needing to go anywhere else could be very true. We have recently added a video review comparing WorldVentures Rovia to the competition on an airfare search as well as a cruise vacation search.

WorldVentures Scam Claim: WorldVentures LTC product is essentially a travel agent “card mill”

Travel agents have been hit especially hard in the past 10 years as more and more travel continues to be booked online. In this same time frame several network marketing companies have made a failed attempt to take advantage of this shift. Most are not around anymore and left a bad taste in the mouths of a lot of people because they were not delivering any true value. Instead, they were operating what is commonly referred to in the network marketing based travel industry as a “card mill”. This is a situation where a networking company sells a travel agent package similar in description to WorldVentures LTC product but in reality it’s just a cheap plastic card designed to give the holder discounts as if they were a licensed travel agent.

I am happy to say that there is no sign that WorldVentures has gone this route with the LTC product. I cannot find any reference to a travel agent discount card anywhere in their marketing material. Further verification with WorldVentures agents has confirmed that you cannot obtain this card until making an industry standard of travel sales along with training and certifications similar in nature to what traditional travel agents must undergo.

We’ve barely gotten started with our review of World Ventures Dream Trips, check out the rest.

Cozumel Mexico has been a prime vacation destination for some time now and once you get there you will quickly see why. However; there are a few things that you will want to keep in mind before you had out to any location in Mexico on a vacation, including Cozumel.

Off Season Bargains

Beware of bargain rate, off season vacation packages, for one big reason. That is because the pictures on the brochure don’t show the heat and the humidity. If you don’t mind sweltering heat and humidity you can cut with a knife then go for it, because everything is a bargain in the off season in all the Mexican resort areas.

Still Great Prices

Perhaps you have heard of $1 taxi rides, 50 cent cocktails and mounding plates of sweet, delicious giant shrimp for $1.50. If you have, you can rest assured that the person who told you this visited Mexico back in the 1970s or 80s. Sure, there are still awesome deals, but not like that any more. Also, if you are planning on staying at one of the modern hotel resorts in a place like Cabo, don’t be shocked when you find the prices on food and drinks are even higher then in the states.

Travel Light

Do yourself a favor and travel light. Casual light dress is the norm and besides, its a lot more comfortable. Also, think twice before you pack expensive jewelry or video equipment and never leave anything in your hotel room that you wouldn’t mind being stolen. This rule particularly applies if you are stying in any of the cut rate hotels or motels.

Its Not Disneyland

While you are vacationing in Mexico never lose sight of the fact that you are in a foreign country, not Disneyland. For the most part, a $20-$30 bribe will cover any minor scrapes that a tourists can find themselves in with the local cops, but that doesn’t mean that someone can do whatever they please. Be respectful of the local laws and remember that many an American tourist who couldn’t hold their booze has found themselves enjoying their vacation from a roach infested Mexican jail cell.
